Lately I made two Triboelectric tubes for myself .
Triboelectric tube is a tube made of transparent glass and it contains a few grams of metal Merqury the tube is then filled with nobel gases such as
Neon or Argon and then it will partially be evacuated and finally the tube is sealed , the moment you got one of these tubes u have to wait till night
or u have to find a dark place notice the place must be without any light! after your eyes got used to the darkness rotate the tube and u'll see it
emitts light! (don't expect an intense light !)depending on which gas u have used the color of the light differs for my own experience ,the tube which
contains, Neon emitts orange color and the other one (one that contains Argon) emitts blue light!
I strongly suggest u to make one of these for yourselves & have fun :-)
I'm looking for the reason of the light I think static charge might have hands in it ! I wonder does the tube emitts x-ray?
if we don't use any gases?

The one with larger neck contains Neon & the one with shorter neck contains Argon. I'll try to post their emission of light in the dark soon.

Wow, that's really cool! I'll have to try that once I can get some mercury.
Where did you get those interesting tubes?wish i had a kraken!!! - 19-7-2014 at 08:12
Do u know Neon sign ? here exist some small shops which make whatever shape u want using special glass tubes , go find them in your place (better to
find an expert one! cuz others may say it is not possible!) then tell him or her to make u such a tube then give him or her your mercury tell him/her
to fill the tube with Neon/Argon gas and then evacuate it with his/her vaccum pomp and then ask him/her to close the other end of the tube with flame
(they have all the equipments!)
and there u have it !Texium - 19-7-2014 at 08:15
Wow, well that certainly makes it very easy indeedMorgan - 19-7-2014 at 08:18
Damn, I could do all that myself except the vacuum part.
I really do need to buy a good vacuum, but I lack the ~$2000.00 at the time.wish i had a kraken!!! - 19-7-2014 at 09:58
for my friends I know u already know how to work with glass but i made this for those who dont!
Zyklon-A I have a vaccum pomp but I don't have gas charges!

and guys those who make Neon signs , have this device (in our place they call it tester!) this device produces high voltage (but it is not lethal :-)
) i'll show u how it works

I remember when that article came out. It's a good example of the unexpected.
I don't know very much about X-rays so make sure you are certain of what things you might try or ask someone who knows.
