Where to buy Al powder in the UK

weeksie98 - 25-10-2013 at 10:56

Hi,

I am in the process of preparing a thermite reaction, and the only mystery that remains is how to obtain powdered Al without police attention (I read 'so my house was raided today', and am consequently paranoid). Does anyone know any major DIY chains or types of store in which I might find this powder? Also, what is the best mesh to use to make sure the thermite doesn't flash?

I would rather not go cracking open etch-a-sketches, so if I could have a source of ready-made powdered Al, that would be much appreciated!

Thanks :P

Aluminum foil. Coffee grinder. You know where I'm going with this.

You're a genius :D

But would that be it? Or would I have to ball mill it as we'll? Because I have no facility to do that.

Ball milling does help reduce particle size dramatically which does improve ease of ignition, but if using Mg ribbon or silicon/permanganate microfuse you should be able to get ignition without too much issue

You might be able to find it in painting stores; it's used to add "glitter" to paints.
