I have recently been trying to seperate out thiodiglycol from ink from ballpoint pens, I have no distillation equipment to speak of, so I have been
mixing the ink with an great excess of water and filtering though filter paper, a few washes get it almost clear.
I am thinking, for the final seperation of thiodiglycol, taking advantage of the fact that thiodiglycol melts at -16 C and freezing it out, like with
the procedure for freeze concentrating H2O2.
Could someone with better access to university libraries/literature than I perhaps have a look to see if there is any thiodiglycol/H2O azeotrope when
freezing it out of aq. solution?
Your help would be much appreciated, thanks,
The Rev.
