I like your idea, have you a link to your new forum?Lambda-Eyde - 4-12-2012 at 15:48
If ScienceMadness is so unstable that we need a secondary forum to contact eachother, then it's a symptom showing that something should be done.
Another website is not the solution.
I do think that we could use an IRC channel, however.elementcollector1 - 4-12-2012 at 16:08
Why not? A backup solution is a better temporary solution than none at all. Besides, we could have this grow into an awesome new Sciencemadness. Mailinmypocket - 4-12-2012 at 16:23

IRC would be neat! Another website has potential to cause certain losses in information though. An example would be if let's say SM went down, and a
new thread would be created for an ongoing discussion on Sciencemadness, except on a separate forum. Once SM comes back online there is a good chance
that the original thread on that topic would lose coherency. Parts of conversations could end up in one place or the other. As long as that doesn't
happen then there shouldn't be problems though.
However, the idea of a means to communicate with members outside of SM is a good idea!

i think its a good idea because i remember when sciencemadness was down and i was really bummed out until i got ahold of plante.one member alone was
having some contact with sciencemadness. sciencemadness is the common denominator and i think always will be and if not, sciencemadness will be
godfather anyway.Hexavalent - 5-12-2012 at 08:46
Is it me, or has SM been going down more frequently since Polverone changed the code for spam posts?watson.fawkes - 5-12-2012 at 09:32
I would like to put in a reminder. Polverone's call for participation: modernizing SM forum software. Part of the problem is that the code base that this forum runs on is not, ahem, stellar.
Moving to something that doesn't periodically trash its own database would alleviate many, perhaps all, of the recent outages.
Edit: Typo.

The moderators have swopped emails so that we can send Polverone an email if the board goes down and he does not notice.
Hopefully this will help cut the down time.
Science Madness does run on venerable software and we could do with migrating to something newer and shinier! Hexavalent - 5-12-2012 at 12:54
How long do you anticipate this would take, SS? ScienceSquirrel - 6-12-2012 at 08:07
I really hope something will be done for the forum software. The forum seams to be pretty old, and few things should be fixed. Hopefully it should be
done soon.Vargouille - 16-1-2013 at 01:23
Link is broken. So is your main site's.
Also, I find that invisionfree and zetaboards have a quite stable forum software free, so you might want to move to that. plante1999 - 16-1-2013 at 04:04
Sorry, I tried to change the domain, shortly after putting the link, all link should be fixed today.

Sorry to double post, but the last forum had a lot of advertising, and not a lot of possibility. I changed the forum hardware. I use zetaboard, which
have a lot less advertising.
