Activated Basic Aluminum Oxide

I did a search on google but wasn't satisfied with what I found. I just purchased online via, ebay 1kg of Aldrich Activated Basic Aluminum Oxide.

Sigma Aldrich website lists this product as an absorbant, by which I take it to mean that it can be used as an dessicant to dry chemicals. Am I right in thinking this?

Also, if activated basic aluminum oxide is a dessicant, how is it different from molecular sieves? can it replace it? can i use it to dry solvents?

any help is welcomed!:D

Actually, it is adsorbant.

The difference is that they have different Wikipedia entries: desiccant and adsorbent.
