Electrolisis of Cobalt/Lithium acetate

I recently attempted to extract cobalt containing compounds from a lithium ion battery.I had extracted the lithium cobalt oxide and placed it in 30% acetic acid. The solution transitioned to a purple color which hints to almost everyone that cobalt compounds (cobalt acetate) is in solution along as some lithium acetate.

I would like to extract some cobalt compounds from this solution but i came across that i could potentially use electrolysis to extract solid cobalt from solution using carbon electrodes.
Co²⁺(aq) + 2e⁻ → Co(s)

I would like to know if this is possible.

It will probably be highly contaminated with other metals such as manganese and nickel. To separate the lithium from the transition metals, precipitate them with sodium hydroxide. The lithium hydroxide will stay in solution. Filter out the metal hydroxides and bring the lithium hydroxide solution to a simmer. Add sodium carbonate, and the sparingly soluble lithium carbonate will precipitate.
Dissolve the metal hydroxides in sulfuric acid and crystallize. Cobalt sulfate heptahydrate is reasonably soluble in methanol (50g/100mL) while manganese sulfate is not. Nickel is a little harder to separate, but can be done using butanone. See Scrap Science’s series.

Hey, thanks for the reply but you see i currently don't have proper filters only coffe filters so filtering wont be applicable.

I use coffee filters. Only occasionally do I have to use finer lab filter paper.

when i used my coffee filters nothing happened it just went straight through someone advised me to decant the liquid but there will still be impurities can i for chance use a cotton ball or electrolisis?

Filter through a cotton ball. This method can trap very small particles. It will take a long time, though.

ok il use a cotton ball and try to filter the cobalt hydroxide
