Sodium methoxide melts at 127C and decomposes at 350C.
Its possible to produce sodium methoxide from NaOH and sieves in methanol then to distill off the excesss methanol before proceeding with dry sodium
methoxide.
What surprised me is that there are no papers or reference on the electrolysis of molten sodium methoxide. I have no inclination to try this but I
overall want to answer 2 questions.
1. What is the reason why no one has published a paper on this (it doesnt work) but if any other reason exists I wonder what it is.
2. If someone were to try it, in my head this sounds like it could go horribly wrong given sodium methoxide is flammable IE may work but the method is
retarded but the question is could this be the reason no one tried it.
