Well lets see the results!!

That's cool. I can't use it because I am not using metal detonator cases. I'm using plastic ball-point pens. So I what I do is I fill in the gap before the electric match with cotton saturated with superglue (it makes it rock hard) and then top it all off with copious quantities of hot glue... since I cannot get my epoxy to harden for some reason.

That looks like a quality tool, very nice design. I might have to make something like that one of these days...

Very cool

Whats the maximum permissible wall thickness?
Some of these crimping pliers can only handle really thin tubes, like 0,25mm or so.

System Berta for example needs a different approach, thats for sure;)

Did anybody here ever tried a Knipex type 975504 or similar?
These could only handle thin walled tubes too, I wonder if they could do 0,5mm aluminium... Also the diameters one can handle are pretty narrow.

hate to redirect the conversation as I've never made caps, but I have made "epoxy substitutes" by mixing superglue and cotton, or superglue and sodium bicarbonate, to fill in a gap. It's worth mentioning that it gets hot while curing, sometimes even smokes, and there's videos of it on YouTube, supposedly auto igniting. Not sure how much of a risk there is in your setup, probably negligible but it would be nice to know how hot it actually gets.

What are you thinking about this for blasting Caps. transportation?

Ignition is not a thing with superglue and cotton, but it is an exothermic reaction. How hot it gets, however, is dependent on the brand of superglue. I sealed a test cap (with a chlorate sugar filler) and used a different brand of superglue than what I normally use. It got much, much hotter than before. Thankfully it was nowhere near the mixture (I don't think it got nearly hot enough to ignite though) and it solidified.

I did watch TKOR's (The King of Random) video on baking powder and superglue and I don't think it gets very hot at all. Either way the reason why I am using these instead of 5-minute epoxy is because no matter what I do, I can never get the epoxy to harden. It is weird, but that issue, and the foul smell of epoxy made me want to find something else. Hot glue, once it cools and cures, is pretty solid. Making a glue plug first then topping it off with more glue should be an adequate seal.

The other thing is cutting down the pen body to just the right length. because it is excessively long for the 0.75/1.5 grams of energetics you want to put in there (depending on how powerful a detonator you want to make).
