what type of filter is recommended to scrub volatile particles that escape from
the glassware.
the fan exhaust is already going out through a window but I want the fumes to be odorless clean air.
I assume the filter is placed before the fan but what exact type of filter is recommended?
activated carbon, HEPA,... ?

I believe that you should have scrubbers attached to your glassware
to remove vapours before they can be released into the fume hood.
Cheaper than trying to fit some kind of universal filter
that would have to pass the full airflow and filter it.
Your fan should be the last in line, just before the exit
that way any leaks in your ducting will draw air into the ducting and be exhausted via the fan,
rather than potentially leaking your exhaust fumes into your environment.
