I thought I would give a writeup on Acetanilide. Those who directly want to watch the prep video link below
https://youtu.be/HbEMmhiBTTg
Acetanilide or N phenylacetamide is an organic compound formed by acetylation of aniline
There are various methods of doing that. First I will explain what I did then the other methods
Whatever be the method, the Ultimate aim is to acetylate aniline using an acetylation mixture
Materials required
2ml aniline
2ml glacial acetic acid
2ml acetyl Chloride
Take 2 mL of aniline in a dry boiling tube,( I used a small 25ml FB flask just for fancy)
add 2 mL of glacial acetic acid to it and mix the two thoroughly.
To the above mixture add 2 mL of acetyl chloride in lots(0.3 mL at a time).
The mixture becomes warm. If the boiling tube becomes unbearable to touch, cool it under tap water.
After addition of whole amount of acetyl chloride, heat themixture for five minutes in a boiling water bath.
Cool the boiling tube and add ice-cold water (~20 mL) intothe tube with constant stirring.
Filter the acetanilide separated as white powder and washwith water till filtrate is neutral to litmus.
Crystallise the crude acetanilide with hot water. White shiningneedle shaped or flake shaped crystals are obtained.
Now about other methods
You can use Acetic acid and zinc dust as acetylating mixture
You can also use Acetic anhydride and Pyridine
Well you can try any method. It's just that aniline needs to be acetylated
Thanks for being patient listening to me.

Thanks brother. I am now planning to make some other compounds with Acetanilide
Like p- nitro or bromo Acetanilide

You"re welcome brother, are you planning on making video for those reactions as well? I like your video format, you pack tons of knowledge and explain
the reactions very well.

Ys I am planning to make video on that
