Hello, I hope this is the right sub-forum to post this.
Do you guys know Discord? Is there a ScienceMadness discord server?
If not, let's start one?
It would be great if the admins supported the idea, so it could even become an officially recommended place.DavidJR - 7-9-2019 at 13:00
There are some more active chemistry discord servers though, for instance the Explosions & Fire server (https://discord.gg/pNuZ2tv) and a "Chemistry Discord" server (https://discord.gg/nSSxK5F).camurgo - 7-9-2019 at 14:36
Thank you. I've joined them all!
I'm on other chemistry and general science discords too. Those two you've mentioned I didn't know though.
Sciencemadness discord server?

I don't know if anyone has inquired about this before, but i'd love to see an official SM discord server, other similar sites like amateurpyro have
one and I think it would really help discussion as you can't really have an active discussion due to the posting limits on this site and overall lack
of allure, no offense. vibbzlab - 12-11-2019 at 03:02
I included a link in my post, but here it is to be more visible: https://discord.gg/wMdcsHCharlieA - 13-11-2019 at 17:48
OK, this nearly octagenarian doesn't have a clue as to what a "discord server is. It sounds like it would be a place to gripe.BromicAcid - 13-11-2019 at 18:17
I remember when we had an ICQ channel and also... geeze, I can't even remember (Edit: It was an IRC chatroom) - quite a few iterations.

Ok cool . I just entered the channelfusso - 13-11-2019 at 20:18
So what's the point of a SM discord server? and how do you screen members?

No worries! It’s a platform where a group of people can message each other, similar to a forum, but quicker, and with the ability to voice chat the
group, or even have certain activities and even games like chess or poker or something, if the admins allow that certain kind of things. woelen - 14-11-2019 at 00:36
It might be nice to have such a thing, but doesn't it lead to the loss of interesting info? Only a fraction of the members will use that discord
server and if interesting info is shared at that server, the others will not see it. Of course, I also see the fun part of it. Some social
interaction, or playing games with each other can be a nice thing as well. Personally I have no objection to such a 'side-channel' for sciencemadness,
but I think it would be good to keep in mind that if really interesting things are shared over there, that they are shared at the forums as well. I
myself will not participate in the discord server channel, I already have difficulty finding the time to regularly be present here.mayko - 14-11-2019 at 06:07
Are folks in some sort of hurry such that the forum isn't fast enough for them as it is? Like woelen touched on, this site is great because it's an
easily searchable and linkable archive, something I don't expect a discord to help at all. As well, this site looks like something from the early
2000s.... because it is. It's survived where untold other sites haven't, which means that it's probably been doing something right. What it hasn't
been doing, is tethering itself to outside social media every time someone reinvents the chat room.
Also, how would this be moderated? Every discord I have ever entered is rotten with Anime Nazis.
