Substituting HCl for H2SO4 re: hydrolysis

Good day all,

I would like to substitute HCl acid in for H2SO4 acid for the hydrolysis portion of the referenced synthesis of 1-Phenyl-1,2-Propanedione from Isonitrosopropiophenone.

If memory serves this should not be an issue mole for mole if the amount is doubled owing to H2SO4 acid having an extra proton vs. HCl acid, yes?

This won't work one on one, at least the workup won't. Sulfuric acid doesn't come over in the steam distillation, HCl will.

Very true. Thanks for reminding me of the basics haha
