SiC is used to make resistance elements for heaters. When quite hot it reacts with oxygen, the SiO2 skin formed protects the bulk of the heater to
some extent. The high resistance when cold, the negative Tc of resistance (conducts better as it gets hot, meaning it pulls more current), and the
relative fragility restrict the use of SiC. |
