Stirrer Lubricant

My hotplate/stirrer is really old. "How old is it?...". Judging by the hieroglyphic symbols on the front(I think they read 'corning') I'd say 1000-2000BC. The stirrer sounds like a KitchenAid. What kind/grade of lube should I use on the stirring column?

I have heavy duty silicone multi-purpose grease(aerosol spray), plumber's silicone grease(goopy) or 3-in-1.

Open it up, take a look-see. What is the actual source of noise/vibration?

It may be possible to make adjustments (screws etc.) that will alleviate your problem.

If the overall problem, turns out to be wear on the bushings or bearings......Grease may not, solve your problem long term.

For that, you'd have to replace the bearings or bushings.

Personally, I might try white lithium grease, or the messy but effective Moly in oil.....But, thats just because I have 'em around the house.

If excessive wear is the problem, that plumbers grease sounds interesting. Thicker grease might conceivably fill more space and prevent wobble.
