I recently read about a method of growing Claviceps fungus that uses wet rye seed. However I have only read about it from one source.
This is what I read:

There is an old method that starts with dry rye seed . wet it , to grow the ergot fungus, whick is a black fungus that looks like as seed only
slightly larger.

I think this would be done by spraying the germinating seeds with Claviceps spores.
