prepn. of anhydrous hbr with NaHSO4 and NaBr

has anyone considered this?
you know the sulfate anion oxidizes hydrogen bromide but as a dry mixture it's uninonized you see so this may very well be the ticket.
by simply combining the two and heating together.
sodiumbisulfate and sodium bromide that is.

I think it would oxidize it still - mix up a little bit and see.

it works with table salt to make dry hcl gas, i'll have to find out for myself i remember though it has to be ionized for the oxidation to take place you may see a little oxidation but not as much

Perhaps you could get creative and mix a little bit of a sulfide salt with it, any Br2 that formed, would hopefully react with the hydrogen sulfide that would also be forming giving you sulfur and HBr?
.. actually that is kind of a stupid idea IMO

not to mention the stench i would'nt even think it would stay in solution
