Contents
Properties
Chemical
Naphthol Green B dissolves in water, forming a green solution.
Physical
Naphthol Green B is a dark green or black-green solid, soluble in water. It is moderate soluble in some polar solvents, such as formic acid, hydrochloric acid, methanol, but insoluble in non-polar solvents, as well as glacial acetic acid. In hydrochloric acid it dissolves, turning yellow, due to the formation of iron chlorides.
Availability
Naphthol Green B is sold by various chemical suppliers. While there don't appear to be sellers on eBay, there are several on Amazon.
Preparation
Naphthol Green B is much cheaper to buy than synthesize.
Projects
- Stain collagen
Handling
Safety
Naphthol Green B may stain green, so proper protection should be worn.
It is not classified as hazardous substance or mixture according to Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.

In closed bottles, away from corrosive vapors.
Disposal
Naphthol Green B can be neutralized with a strong oxidizing solution, such as chromic acid, Fenton's reagent or piranha solution, followed by neutralization of the leftover oxidizing agent and then poured down the drain. Since most of the Naphthol Green B neutralized this way is either as solution or traces, there is little risk of splashing.
